‘Family, Community & You’
Hillview Resource Centre provides a low-cost quality community based Early childhood Education & Care service, Rascals (Junior Preschool) and Ramblers (Senior Preschool) for children aged 2 years to school age across two sites on the Hillview Estate.
The Importance of Play Based Early Education
We believe that play is an essential element of Early Childhood Education & Care. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child states that every child has the Right to Play. Research shows that children learn best when they are involved in meaningful experiences based upon their interests. Play provides these experiences and gives children the opportunity to develop a range of skills that will assist them in their life-long learning journey. These skills include communication, problem solving, creativity, imagination and scientific inquiry as well as opportunities to develop early literacy and numeracy skills.
Play allows children to make sense of their surroundings and show their knowledge and understanding of their experiences and interactions with the world around them. Children are masters of play, this develops confidence, leadership skills and allows children to become competent young children ready to engage with their world and the learning experiences available to them. Play is FUNdamental for children.
We work to an Aistear model of curriculum development and have a range of age-appropriate play and educational resources; Siolta quality standards underpin all our work across the service and we are now working towards Siolta accreditation.
Our Junior Preschool (33 Hillview Grove) caters for a maximum of 10 children and our Senior Preschool caters for up to 16 children.
We operate the Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE), the free preschool year (38 weeks only) over two years running from September to June. Our service is open between 9 am to 1 pm (9 am to 12/1 pm for ECCE), five days a week, managed by QQI Level 8 in ECCE, Sally Hartnett.
Fees: The fee for part-time childcare is €140 per child. This is reduced if you are eligible for a ‘subvention’ e.g. NCS (CHICK) or ECCE (free Pre-School, up to 15 hrs a week for two years).
